Chishakwe

Chishakwe is located in Savé Conservancy in the South Eastern part of Zimbabwe. The Conservancy was set up to establish a sanctuary for the intensive protection of black and white rhino and has become one of Africa’s most successful black rhino breeding programme as well as home to a diverse range of animal, bird and plant life.  It is also one of the rare locations in Zimbabwe where you have a chance of seeing all of the “big five” in one place.

Chishakwe has a variety of accommodation options on offer, from the fully catered River Camp, to various self-catering houses, a cottage and the “stable block accommodation.”

1. River Camp (10 pax)

This comprises of:

  • Wardrobe style hanging space with dressing table & mirror;
  • Indoor directors chairs and table;
  • Private verandah with 2 chairs & small table;

2. Stone Cottage (2 pax)

A lovely little stone cottage, ideal for either 1 or 2 guests.  The cottage consists of an open plan lounge, kitchenette and small dining area.  The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.  There is a small verandah at the front of the cottage overlooking the braai and fire-pit area.

3. The Stables (24 pax)

The old stable block has been cleverly converted into accommodation suitable for backpackers, scholars, or those on a budget.  There are 6 rooms, which have 2 bunk beds in each, and are therefore able to accommodate a maximum of 4 guests in each room.  The rooms all have a toilet and basin and there are outdoor showers at the one end of the block.  Located at the front of the block is a communal fire-pit and braai area with seating.

4. The Ranch House (10 pax)

The Ranch House is as the name suggests – an old Ranch House which has been converted into a lovely self-catering house, beautifully styled in a country theme.  There are 5 bedrooms, which all have twin beds than can be converted into double beds. There is one bedroom which is en-suite, with the other rooms sharing 2 other bathrooms, one with a bath, the other with a shower.  Ranch House has a magnificent enclosed verandah running the length of the front of the house (2 of the bedrooms are accessed off this verandah) which has 2 seating areas.  The lounge and dinning rooms are roomy and very comfortably furnished, with a working fireplace in the lounge for chilly nights.  The large, fully equipped family styled kitchen is a popular feature, with scullery and wash area adjacent to it.

5. Hunter’s House (11 pax)

Hunter’s House is a little more up-market than Ranch House, and is situated not far from the other houses/cottages.  Although not enclosed, there is a lovely long verandah also running the entire length of the front of the house, with 2 seating areas to choose from, with an additional, smaller enclosed verandah with seating at the back of the house. There are 5 bedrooms, 2 of which have double beds, 2 have twin 3/4 beds, and 1 has 3 single beds.  Two of the 5 bedrooms are en-suite, with a 3rd bathroom to service the other rooms and guests. The lounge is large and tastefully furnished, with a working fireplace.  Adjacent to this is a smaller dining room, which leads to the old fashioned styled kitchen.  There is a popular fire-pit area with camp chairs, which can be access from the kitchen, as well as the front verandah.

Whether you are wanting to self-cater at one of the houses, cottage, “stable block” or rather have a bit of a spoil and stay at the fully catered River Camp, Chishakwe Safaris is one of the most beautiful places to be based on your next trip to the Savé Valley Conservancy.
