Churu Expedition Camp (Tiger Bay) is a newly completed self-catering camp near the old Tiger Bay Lodge on the shores of Lake Kariba. The camp is located on a private concession which is up the gorgeous Ume River that borders the Matusadona National Park. There are various ways guests can get to camp:
- By road from Harare or Chirundu via the Binga/Magunje road, though a high clearance 4×4 vehicle is advised as the roads outside the Park are in poor condition;
- Book the Barge to Spurwing Island from Kariba, and then self-drive from there to camp through Matusadona National Park;
- Fly into the old Crocodile Farm airstrip;
- Boat transfer across the lake from Kariba town.
Accommodation at Churu Expedition Camp includes self-drive camping for those with their own equipment, serviced tent hire with basic amenities, and fully equipped self-catering tents. There are:
- 3 x Twin Bedded Safari Tents
- 10 x Two Man Basic Dome Tents
- Two shared communal ablution blocks.
Churu Camp includes a fully equipped kitchen, a shaded lounge area, swimming pool, and a ladies and gents shared ablution blocks. It consists of three en-suite tents, each equipped with two twin beds, making it suitable for families or small groups. Water is supplied by boreholes and is safe to drink. The camp is off the national grid so electricity is provided by solar with a generator as a back up.
Please note Churu camp is NOT fenced, so please be vigilant and aware of your surrounds as wild animals do enter camp. The camp provides:
- 3 x canvas tents
- 1 x shared kitchen with fridge/freezer, gas stove, toaster, kitchen utensils, cutlery and crockery
- Reverse Osmosis filtration unit for safe drinking water
- 1 x sheltered common dining area (known as the ‘Gazebo’)
- 1 x braai (on request), and 1 x fire pit (on request)
- 1 x central ablution unit
- 1 x lockable storage room for additional luggage
- Camp powered by 3kva solar unit
- Self-catering (cooks available at an additional cost)

- En-suite bathroom with access to hot water showers powered by a solar geyser
