Ingwe Pan is named after one of the largest pans in the area, which the camp overlooks – with the word Ingwe actually meaning Leopard in the Matabele/Zulu language. Ingwe is situated in the Wilderness Area of Mana Pools National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Pan is surrounded by Jackal berry and Nyala berry trees, the focal point being a massive Fig tree. The area is known for its Jesse bush and riverine thickets, with nearby Baobab groves adding to the diversity. Blended into this environment and surrounding the southern side of the pan are 8 large Meru style tents that comprise the camp.
Access is either by air or road transfers, with a charter flight taking 60-80 minutes from the capital of Harare, or 1 hour 45 minutes from Victoria Falls. Once at the airstrip the road transfer back to camp takes roughly 25 minutes, but this can vary depending on game view sightings. A maximum of 14kgs of luggage per person is allowed for light aircraft flights, including hand luggage and camera equipment. Please ensure that all luggage is soft-sided. Only bags without wheels are permitted. Luggage dimensions should not exceed 25cm (10 inches) wide, 30cm (12 inches) high and 62 cm (24 inches) long. Passengers weighing between 110 – 120 kg (242 – 264 lbs) need to please advise us when making a booking, so that we can in turn advise the air charter company for scheduling purposes. Passengers weighing over 120kgs (246lbs) will be expected to purchase an additional seat. GPS co-ordinates are: S 15 49’04.5” E 029 25’44.3”
The camp itself is made up of 8 luxury tents in total, with a maximum capacity of 16 guests. These tents are designated as:
8 x twin-bedded with two three quarter beds (tents 7 & 8 are located closer to one another and are used to accommodate larger families).
All of the 2 x three quarter beds have mattress converters and so are able to transform the twin beds into king-size beds. Each bedroom has a front patio, with chairs and table, overlook the pan. The en-suite facilities include an outdoor shower, as well as an indoor shower, a basin and toilet. Tent 2 is wheelchair friendly.
Ingew Pan does allow children who are over 6 years of age. Children 6-11 pay standard child rate (50% of adult sharing rate), while children 12+ pay full adult rate. They take no more than 2 children under 12 years of age in a tent with 2 adults. No children under 12 are allowed to participate in game walk or canoeing activities.
The entertainment area has a variety of intimate seating areas in the large, open-plan style area, but most guests choose to sit out under the magnificent fig tree overlooking the pan. There are 2 movable fire-pits which are lit in the evenings and early mornings to ward off the cold, and generally provide a lovely ambience.
Ingwe Pan has power provided by solar, with backup generators for emergencies. Therefore appliances like hair dryers and electric shavers may not be used, and are not provided. All of the tented rooms have 220V plug points which can be used to charge batteries and sleep apnoea machines. There is no Wi-Fi in the tents or main area, but very limited Wi-Fi can be accessed near the office at back of camp.
The hot water is heated by gas geysers. For guests travelling with valuables, there is a safe in the main office. Complimentary tea and coffee facilities are provided. There is also a complimentary laundry service. The water in camp is provided by borehole, and is safe to drink.

- Walking (guide dependant);
- Game viewing from the comfort of your own tent;
- Canoeing upon request.
Ingwe Pan can have some fantastic wildlife sightings, especially later in the season, with previous guests having seen elephants, leopards, lion, brown hyena, buffalo, nyala and even endangered wild dogs coming down to drink at the pan, right in front of camp. In those times you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your tent to see the game!
Ingwe is on a private concession, making it the ideal camp at which to base yourself and enjoy the best Mana Pools has to offer, from wildlife viewing from your room, a game vehicle or even a game walk on foot with a professional guide. Ingwe is a must visit for those wanting a more private Mana Pools experience.
