Southern Sun’s Ridgeway Hotel has recently been completely refurbished, ensuring it stays fresh and up to date for modern travellers, fulfilling their every wish and requirement. The hotel has provided its services for more than half a century, having first opened their doors in 1953. It is ideally located only 3kms from the City Centre, 27kms from the airport and close to numerous malls.
Although so centrally located in the city, the beautifully landscaped gardens and grounds create an impression of peace and tranquillity, you soon forget you are in central Lusaka. There are well trained and welcoming staff and doormen to greet you upon arrival at the main reception area, with plenty of comfortable chairs to take a load off while waiting to check-in.
There are 154 rooms in total, comprising of:
- 146 Standard double/twin rooms;
- 6 Executive rooms;
- 1 Suite;
- 1 Room for the physically challenged;
All the rooms are very comfortably equipped for a great night’s sleep with blackout curtains, soft and spacious beds and walk-in showers. There is 24 hour room service, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen DSTV and air-conditioning.
Southern Sun Ridgeway offers a choice of 6 conference and function facilities suitable for a variety of events. The venues can be configured to host a range of events including small boardroom meetings, cocktail functions, workshops / seminars, training sessions, conferences and product launches. A team of professional banqueting staff is available to assist in organising the perfect function, with specialised menus and detailed planning.
For their business guests the hotel offers a courier service, a full Business Centre with internet connectivity, PC / printer service, photocopiers, and secretarial services. Southern Sun also offers airport handling services, transfer services, an airport shuttle service (on request and for a fee), a shoe shine service, babysitting services (on request), laundry, dry cleaning and pressing.
For those not doing business, there is a lovely large swimming pool to unwind in after a day of travel or shopping. For the more energetic, the hotel offers an in-house gym, conveniently located next to the swimming pool. Also located on the premises is an on-site bank with an ATM, a Bureau de Change, SAA and Proflight Zambia offices, and free parking.
A MUST for anyone staying at Southern Sun is to have at least one buffet dinner at their Musuku restaurant. This is really great value for money, with a wide variety of food on offer. It is also located next to my favourite feature of the hotel, the pond-courtyard with its resident reed-home weavers and baby crocodiles. Staff feed the crocodiles at 11a.m every day, an interesting event to witness if you have time to kill.
