The Elephant Camp

Share this post

The Elephant Camp is a Wild Horizons’ product and has been rated one of the best luxury lodges in the whole of Zimbabwe, never mind Victoria Falls.  The Elephant Camp is about a 20 minute drive from Victoria Falls town in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary, a private concession in the Victoria Falls National Park. Elephant Camp overlooks the Zambezi Gorge with a magnificent view of the spray from the Victoria Falls.

The Elephant Camp is divided into 2 sections: Elephant Camp Main and Elephant West Camp.

Elephant Camp Main comprises of 12 luxury suites.  All the suites are gorge facing and you are able to view the mist, that hangs over the rainforest, from the Victoria Falls themselves, better known as “the smoke that thunders”.

West Camp has only 4 suites, making it ideal for exclusive use by smaller groups and families seeking a more intimate safari experience.  The dining tent and main pool deck are detached from the main camp, ensuring a more private option for your holiday.

All the rooms are en-suite with double basins and both an indoor AND outdoor shower.  The beds can be configured on request to either double or twin.

All the rooms have:

  • Ceiling to floor mosquito nets that fall away from the beds;
  • Fans & air conditioning unit;
  • Tea and Coffee facilities;
  • Hair dryers;
  • Digital safes;
  • Plug sockets that cater for most foreign plugs, including USB ports in the wall;
  • Laundry service;
  • Nightly turn down service;
  • Complimentary toiletries;
  • Private viewing deck;
  • Wi-Fi.

The main entertainment area of  Elephant Camp Main has a fabulous deck, where the bar and dining area are located.  In keeping with the popularity of their sunken fire pit areas – Elephant Camp Main has a magnificent fire pit located below the front deck.  Also located on a lower level is an infinity pool offering the same gorgeous views.

The lodge endeavours to be environmentally friendly: their electricity is generated by solar power, there is an on site water purification system, the deck is built using environmentally friendly materials and they have as many non-disposable products in use as possible, ensuring the lodge and its guests leave as light a footprint on the land as possible.  Wild Horizons encourages guests to join in the smarter system with their ‘no plastic-no straw’ policy.

The Elephant Camp prides itself on being “more than a destination- it is an experience, an encounter and a cultural connection”, one that we 100% recommend.  So book your trip soon!

We had a fantastic experience with Bryony and her team. Bryony is clearly knowledgeable about the region and guided us through our options and the Lake Kariba houseboat booking and choices. We had a fantastic time and I would thoroughly recommend using Heartveld.

We have just had an amazing 6 nights on Tambarara houseboat organised by Heartveld Adventures. The boat was very comfortable and the staff were excellent. The captain, Reg, was very professional and helpful, the chef cooked delicious meals, the barman kept our drinks flowing, the cleaners left animals made from our towels on our beds at night and the guys on the tender boat were so good with the boys aged 3, 5, 7 and 9 showing them what to do and putting on worms, for us as well. Highly recommended.

The trip was all you could ask for when you want to relax and forget about the world. Captain Godrey and his team consisting Pilot, Chef Takesure and Silas made our stay comfortable and easy. The food was flavourful and filling. You couldn’t say no to Chef Takesure’s meals. Silas kept our cooler box ready every day because he knew we loved our drinks cold and first thing in the morning. Pilot and Captain Godfrey took us to amazing views, magical sunset cruises and helped me find all the crocodiles I was looking for. I totally recommend Heartveld Adventures for all your Kariba fantasies! ☀️⛴️🍹#February2025

Right from when I started researching the trip in November last year, Bryony has been an absolute star. Nothing was ever too much hassle, especially with the rigours of trying to effect payment then! Then the houseboat in Kariba! What an amazing trip we had on the Ponty, and once again Bryony organised transfers and things on the spot, awesome and a big thank you to you and Char, the Ponty was the highlight of our Zim Epic! I cannot recommend Bryony and Heartveld Adventures enough, was so good to meet you at Charara, Cheers and thanks again Glenn and Family.

We've been on Driftwood Houseboat twice and am going on the African Queen in September 24. Really is an amazing experience with amazing staff, very helpful and caring about your comfort and enjoyment. Thank you so much 💖
