Camp Chitubu is a wonderful new camp recently built as part of the Mutondo Safaris Collection, and is located in the Sinamatella region of Hwange National Park. Transfers can be arranged in to camp, via air in a small private charter plane to either Shumba Airstrip, Robins Airstrip or Hwange National Airport. Or for those not wanting to fly in, transfers via road can be organised, and they come through either Main Camp, Robins Camp or Mbala Gate in specially equipped 4×4 game drive vehicles. Please note that guests who wish to self-drive will also need high clearance 4×4 vehicles.
Camp Chitubu has been beautifully built on a ridge overlooking a natural spring that holds water all year round, creating some of the best game viewing, even seen from the luxury of your bed! Another advantage of the location of Camp Chitubu is that the well known Mandavu Dam (the biggest water source in the park) is only 2kms away, so nice and close to take a game drive to view the large animal concentrations that gather there to drink.
The main entertainment area overlooking the salt pan and spring is a large Bedouin tent, which is open-plan and very much in touch with nature. The floor is still the natural earth, and flows from the seating area, straight in to the bar and dining areas, and then down to the open-air fire-pit with stunning views of the stars.
Camp Chitubu has 7 Bedouin style tented rooms in total, 6 are double/twin en-suite tents, while the 7th is a Family tented suite. Each en-suite tent has the following amenities:
- floor-to-ceiling panoramic views of the salt pan;
- 1 x king bed or 2 x three-quarter beds;
- charging ports;
- mosquito nets;
- side tables & lamps;
- open wardrobe features hanging and shelf space for all luggage;
- a private safe;
- en-suite bathrooms with high-pressure wet room style teak and brass showers;
- flush toilets;
- double basins;
- complimentary soaps, body wash, lotions, scrub pads, sunscreen, lip balm, & mosquito repellent;
- fluffy towels are in constant supply and laundry is done by request.
*The family unit consists of two spacious rooms with a shared en-suite bathroom, ensuring both privacy and togetherness.
Chitubu is booked on an All Inclusive Basis, and children are most welcome in camp and should be under the supervision of their parents or a guardian at all times. The age limit for children on a walking safari is 14 years and above, at the discretion of the Pro guide in camp. No matter their age, your guide will make sure that children enjoy their safari experience as much as the adults do. Please note when booking that in the rooms, all children under the age of 14 should be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.

Whilst still offering game drives, Camp Chitubu has its main focus on the walking safaris, as this is what Zimbabwe and our pro guides are best known for. The location of Chitubu, as well as the professional and experienced staff make this one of our “must stay” luxury tented camps in Hwange. If you do get there, we strongly suggest you try their home-made beetroot bread!
