Kazuma Safari Camp is a unique new camp recently built in the little known Kazuma Pan National Park. This is close to both the world famous Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park, and only about 30kms from the Botswana border post of Panda Matenga.
Access is strictly by high clearance 4×4 vehicles:
- 3 hours from Victoria Falls via Panda Masuie Forest Reserve
- 2 hours from Nantwich entrance, Hwange National Park (via Panda Matenga Border Post)
- 1 hour from Panda Matenga Border Post
Kazuma Safari Camp is hired out on either a self-catering or catered option. The en-suite rooms are built up on platforms. There are 5 rooms, made up of:
- 3 x double/twin tented en-suite rooms (1 x double or 2 x XL Twin beds)
- 2 x 2 roomed family tents (with 1 x doubles bed and 2 x XL Twin beds)
The eco-friendly camp sleeps 12 guests, with each tent providing panoramic views of Tsessebe Pan or Kazuma Depression.
The 6 x en-suite tented rooms have the below amenities:
- 1 x double bed or 2 x XL single beds;
- charging ports;
- mosquito nets;
- movable upright pedestal fans;
- side tables & lamps;
- open wardrobe featuring hanging and shelf space for all luggage;
- en-suite bathrooms with showers & basins;
- gas geysers;
- separate flush toilets;
- bath towels;
- toilet paper is provided;
- private decks with incredible views.
Kazuma Safari Camp’s main area is located on ground level, and comprises of an open-plan lounge and dining area under a Bedouin style tented roof, with lockable shared kitchen attached. The floor is made of up a sand free ground sheet, with 2 x 6 seater dining tables, a comfortable lounge seating area with free standing fans and Wi-Fi available in this area.
But most of the entertaining is done at the adjacent elevated sunset deck and pool, which has lovely views of the Kazuma Depression, and comes complete with outside furniture, pool loungers and umbrella for those wanting some shade. Next to the pool deck is a fire pit and braai area, complete with wood fired braai and plough disk and grill, all your braai equipment, counter top with basin and of course chairs and side tables and a wood fired brazier. The pool deck and fire pit area has its own ablutions.
As Kazuma Safari Camp is most popular with guests who book on a self-catering basis, they guests have access to a shared kitchen and all its facilities. All your crockery and cutlery are provided; as well as 2 x 250lit fridge freezers, a 4 plate gas stove, a 5 plate gas hob, kettles, toasters, washing up area with hot and cold water. The entire kitchen is insulated and well vented, with pull-up blinds and mesh to ensure it is secure from rodents, baboons and honey badgers.
There are 2 camp hands who service the camp between 6am – 6p.m. They are available to assist with cleaning, washing up, stoking the boiler and braai pit fires.
A favourite spot of guests is the viewing platform above the water tank on the end of the camp. It is accessed by at cat ladder (at your own risk) and is 8m above the ground with balustrades around the open roofed deck that has 360 degree views of the surrounding Kazuma National Park. What a spot!
Additional Information
- Kazuma Safari Camp has borehole water which is pure and drinkable;
- LPG gas for the kitchen and showers is provided;
- All lounges/dining areas are non-smoking;
- Kazuma is WILD! There are no fences so please be aware this area is home to lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, snakes and scorpions!;
- Parents are requested to be mindful of where and what their children are doing at all times, and do not let them walk around (especially at night) unattended;
- Please stick to the pathways as it is dangerous to walk off these in the thick bush;
- Ensure you bring adequate food, ice and drinks;
- Please bring good torches, insect repellent, sunscreen, binoculars, swimming towels, personal toiletries and closed shoes;
- Do not walk around without a good torch and closed shoes at night time;
- There is NO Zimbabwean cell phone signal coverage, only Botswana coverage;
- We especially ask guests to assist us in caring for the environment and request they remove their rubbish from the camp when they leave;
- Please ensure you stop at the Kazuma National Parks Reception to settle your national parks fees directly;
- Please find your own firewood/charcoal;
- There are no card machines available in camp;
- There are no fuel stations in Kazuma, so ensure you are fully fuelled up before arrival;
- Check in is at 14:00hrs and check-out is at 10:00hrs;
- Please note National Parks do NOT allow fruit in the park, as this can cause wild animals to become destructive when searching for the fruit;
- Feeding wild animals is not permitted.
We are very excited about the opening of Kazuma Safarui Camp, as this offers a new, unique and affordable way to view one of our under utilised National Parks. It has already become one of (if not our most) favourite self-catering camp in Zimbabwe.
